Prescription Safety Glasses

Many workers underestimate the importance of eye health. But it is extremely important, especially if you work in an environment that requires you to wear safety glasses. A research study by Prevent Blindness America showed that over 700,000 Americans suffer eye injuries on the job each year. In addition, another 125,000 people injure their eyes at home, not to mention the countless eye injuries that go unreported.
Grinding and welding are the two most common causes of eye injury. Industries such as construction and manufacturing, and to a lesser extent the agriculture, forestry, mining, and fishing industries, appear to be those where workers commonly sustain eye injuries. Many of these eye injuries occur when the workers were not wearing appropriate eye protection.
Fortunately, most of these injuries can be avoided with a high-quality pair of safety glasses with impact-resistant lenses.

Safety glasses are not regular glasses and regular glasses are not a replacement for safety glasses. One major difference in these two products are its material. Some safety glasses are made with similar materials used for jet windshields. The chances of them shattering on impact is slim to none, as they are built and tested to withstand high impact projectiles. Normal glasses are sturdy and built for everyday wear, but are made of acetate which is not enough to protect your eyes. Another difference is that regular prescription glasses do not offer 360 coverage that safety glasses do.

All prescription safety glasses being prescribed and dispensed in Optika Optometrist meets the Australian / New Zealand and International requirements of AS/NZS 1337.6, ANSI Z87.1-2003, EN 166f and BS166f medium impact) and EN166-F (low energy medium impact). We only use impact resistance optical lenses made of trivex or polycarbonate material. Safety glasses prescribed and dispensed by Optika Optometrist will not only be guaranteed vision correction, but also offered the highest impact protection, as permitted by the standards.
